Plant Operator

Job Description

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, this position is responsible for the safe and productive operation of mine equipment following all applicable Orca Sand and Gravel Practices and Procedures. 

Specific duties include: 

  • Patrol areas assigned to you including conveyors, all transfer chutes, hydraulic take ups, processing plant areas and conveyor systems identifying, and wherever possible correcting problems. 
  • Maintain good hosekeeping of plant. 
  • To assist the Plant Operator or the Ship Loader Operator as directed in order to correct problems or assist with maintenance. 
  • To complete a daily check of assigned area, complete inspection form and report any problems or mechanical defects to supervisor. 
  • Shovelling and hosing sand and gravel resulting from spills. 
  • Grease the plant using grease gun and grease tubes as many as 20 shots of grease per grease fitting, up to 60 fittings to grease, once a day. 
  • Carrying sand and gravel (2) samples weighing 20 pounds each. 
  • Climbing on and off conveyors using stairs. 
  • Inspecting stacker conveyors at inclines of 30%.

Maintenance Supervisor

Job Description

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position plays a key role in the safe and productive operation of the maintenance workforce. Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Assume responsibility for enforcement of policies, regulations and work procedures, especially as related to safe work practices 
  • Administer Impact Benefit Agreements, safety, mine and environmental regulations in a manner consistent with policies and procedures 
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all policies, regulations and procedures which apply to the maintenance department 
  • Maintain in strict confidence all private discussions held between members of the management team 
  • Act in a manner that demonstrates respect for the Company, its facilities and equipment, and most importantly its employees, at all times 
  • Understand production processes and liaise with other supervisors and engineers in coordination maintenance activities in an efficient manner 
  • Work with the Trainer and HSE positions to ensure full application of the company’s employment and training practices 
  • Ensure all employees have reviewed weekly safety toolbox talks 
  • Carry out projects as requested by the Maintenance Manager and/or Mine Manager. 
  • Conduct incident investigations as required, follow up with appropriate corrective action. 
  • Oversee contractors working with the maintenance department 
  • Ensure that maintenance tracking systems are used to full potential to ensure maximum utilization of all equipment 
  • Ensure workforce is performing efficiently 
  • Work with HR and Maintenance Manager to resolve any performance or behavior issues 
  • Mainitain working knowledge of MERP and assume responsibilities specific to the position

Mine Entry

Job Description

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, (Shop, Plant, Mine) the Mine Entry 2 position is responsible for the safe and productive operation of equipment following all applicable OSG Practices and 

Procedures. To patrol the areas that are assigned to you including conveyors; all transfer chutes, hydraulic take ups, processing plant areas and conveyor systems identifying, and wherever possible correcting problems. This position is responsible for the good housekeeping of the plant. 

To complete a pre-trip inspection of equipment prior to operation, complete logbook entries after inspection and turn in logbook sheet at end of shift, complete inspection forms and report any problems or mechanical defects to Supervisor. Duties include but are not limited to Shoveling and hosing sand and gravel resulting from spills. Grease the plant using grease gun and grease tubes as many as 20 shots of grease per grease fitting, up to 60 fittings to grease, once a day, safe/productive operation of equipment, clean up of assigned area, assisting with screen changes in the plant, greasing duties, assisting with ship moorage, other duties may be assigned as determined by operational requirements. 

Success in this position is demonstrated by the willingness to learn and take on new tasks, with the ability to maintain the expected level of safety, quality and productivity. Report all injuries, near misses and incidents to your Supervisor as soon as they take place, take part in incident investigations as required.

Heavy Duty Mechanic

Job Description

To repair all mechanical systems and equipment. To install any new equipment. This position shall provide support to all maintenance tasks within this operation. To contribute to the efficiency of the operation by identifying preventive maintenance tasks for processing equipment and maximizing availability. This position will be filled by a suitably qualified person. Provincially recognized trade certification as a Heavy Duty Mechanic. Must have a high aptitude in industrial processing equipment. Additional upgrade in hydraulics would be an advantage but not essential. Physical requirements include being able to climb ladders and work at heights associated with conveyors and plant.
